What repairs actually cost. A real number in under a minute.

Punch your device and the symptom into the instant quote at the top of this page and you have a genuine number in less time than it takes to find your keys, with no email address required to unlock it. What it costs comes down to which device you own and which part of it gave out, and everything below explains what moves that number.

What decides your price:

  • Your exact model and year
  • Which part it needs, and the grade of that part
  • Whether more than one thing is broken
  • What we find once it is open

Basic diagnostics are free. If you would rather talk to a person, call the store and we will price it over the phone.

Same repair, different device, different answer

Ask three people what a cracked screen costs and you will get three numbers, all of them technically true for somebody. The catch is that the words describing a repair stayed the same while the hardware underneath them changed completely. A display from a phone built several generations ago and a display from a current flagship share a name on an invoice and very little else. Batteries, charge ports, tablet glass, notebook panels, and console boards all work the same way.

Which is why the quote tool on this page asks what you own before it says anything about money. It prices the device in front of you rather than the middle of a category, and it does it without a phone call, a callback, or a form that wants your details before it will show you anything. That is the fastest honest answer available anywhere on this site.

If the tool cannot place your device, or the thing going wrong is stranger than the options it offers, call the shop and describe it. Liquid damage, a device that will not wake up at all, and anything somebody has already had apart are the three that really do need eyes on them before anyone should be quoting you.

Why one flat number is usually the wrong number

Plenty of shops advertise a single figure for a repair. It is great marketing and it is almost always wrong, and it is worth understanding how the trick works before you trust one.

The advertised figure is built around the cheapest version of the job: the oldest model still walking in the door, fitted with the least expensive part available on the open market. If you happen to own that exact phone and you are happy with that exact part, the number is real. Everybody else finds out at the counter that their model is different, or that the good part is the other one, and the figure quietly changes. Nothing dishonest was said out loud. It just was not your number.

The second half of the trick is the part grade nobody mentions. Replacement displays vary enormously in brightness, color accuracy, touch response, and how they survive the next modest drop. A flat advertised figure almost always assumes the bottom of that market, because that is the only way to make the figure small. The savings show up on the receipt and the cost shows up four months later.

We would rather ask two questions and give you an answer that survives contact with the counter. A quote that matches what you actually pay is worth more than a quote that looks better on a billboard.

What moves the number

  • The panel technology and the generation. The single biggest factor on screens. Older displays are inexpensive to source, while the panels on recent flagships are not, and that is a parts cost rather than a decision anybody at this shop gets to make.
  • The grade of the part. Where a lower-cost option genuinely exists and is worth considering, we explain the tradeoff and let you pick. What we will not do is fit one quietly and call it the same repair.
  • How the device is built. Some open in two minutes and some have to come almost entirely apart to reach one component. Labor follows the teardown, not the size of the part.
  • Whether more than one thing is broken. A device that took a hard fall sometimes has a second problem hiding behind the obvious one. You hear about it before we proceed, every time.
  • What turns up once it is open. Corrosion from a spill, a battery starting to swell, or a previous repair done in a rush with stripped screws and missing brackets all add real work.
  • Board-level work. Micro-soldering takes time, equipment, and a steady hand, which is why a job like a console HDMI port sits well above a straightforward part swap.
  • Whether the part is on the shelf. Common models are stocked and usually go out the same day. Less common ones get ordered, which moves the timeline and occasionally the answer about whether the repair is worth doing at all.

Three ways to get your number, all of them free

The instant quote on this page is the quickest, and it is the one to use if you are reading this at midnight and just want to know whether to bother. It costs nothing, it does not gate the answer behind your contact details, and using it does not put you on a list.

Bringing the device in is the most accurate. We identify the exact model, test what is genuinely failing rather than what the symptom suggests, and give you the real figure before a single screw comes out. Basic diagnostics are free and carry no obligation whatsoever, so you can walk in knowing nothing, walk out knowing everything, and decide later.

Calling lands in between. We are glad to talk it through, with one caveat stated plainly: on the phone we are working from your description, and descriptions are imperfect. A phone described as having a cracked screen sometimes also has a failed digitizer or a tired battery underneath, and the answer moves. Treat a phone estimate as a starting point, not a commitment either of us should call final.

We are on Route 1 southbound and walk-ins are always welcome, no appointment. Folks come down from Lynnfield and Peabody or over from Malden and Medford, and the diagnostic is quick enough to be worth the trip just for a straight answer.

When we tell you not to do the repair

This is the part of the cost conversation most shops leave out. Sometimes the right advice is do not spend the money, and we would rather be the ones to say it than let you find out later.

The situations where we will tell you to stop: when a repair approaches what the device is worth in working order, when a device needs several significant repairs at the same time, when it is old enough that it no longer receives software updates and the repair only buys a few more months, and when liquid damage is extensive enough that we cannot promise the fix holds.

In those cases we lay out the alternatives, including a tested pre-owned device and what your current one is worth toward it. We buy, sell, and trade, so there is usually a route that leaves you with something that works, without anybody pretending a dying device has more life in it than it does. Just as often the advice runs the other way: a battery in a phone you still like is one of the best returns in consumer electronics, and we will say so.

Insurance, warranty, and other things that change the number

If you carry device protection, weigh your deductible against the quote before you file anything. On common repairs, paying out of pocket often works out cheaper, and it keeps a claim in reserve for a worse day. The insurance claims page explains how claim work is routed through the shop. We will help you make the comparison, and we will not pretend to know your plan terms, because we do not.

If we did the repair and the part failed on its own, that is a warranty matter and not a new charge. The Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the part we installed and our workmanship for as long as you own the device. Bring it back to the counter and we sort out what is covered before anybody talks about paying.

And if you are weighing repair against replacement, do not forget the resale side. A working device is worth meaningfully more than a broken one, so a repair sometimes pays for a good chunk of itself if you plan to sell or trade the device afterward. That math lives on the sell your device page, and we are happy to walk through it with you.

FAQ

Common questions

Why does the quote tool ask for my model before it says anything?

Because the model is the answer. The same repair name covers parts that are genuinely different from one generation to the next, so naming the device is what turns a guess into a real figure.

Is what the tool tells me what I will actually be charged?

On a straightforward repair to a device we can identify, yes. It shifts only if the device has more wrong with it than the symptom you entered, and if that is the case you hear it from us before we carry on, not at pickup.

Is the diagnostic really free?

Yes. We test the device and tell you what is wrong at no charge and with no obligation. You are welcome to take that answer and walk straight back out the door with it.

Do you charge extra for same-day work?

No. Most common repairs are same-day by default because the parts are already on the shelf. There is no rush fee on a normal repair.

Why are some Android screens more expensive than iPhone screens?

Panel cost. Flagship Galaxy displays are curved assemblies that are expensive to buy and more delicate to fit, while an older phone screen is comparatively cheap to source. The answer follows the part.

Do cheaper parts exist, and would you use one?

Cheaper panels exist and they differ in brightness, color, and touch feel. Where a lower-cost option is worth considering, we tell you the tradeoff and let you choose. We will not install one quietly and call it the same repair.

Will you give me a number over the phone?

We can talk you through it from your description. The exact answer needs the device in front of us, because what people describe and what the device is doing are not always the same thing.

What happens when the repair is worth more than the phone?

We tell you, and we show you the alternatives, including what your current device is worth toward a tested pre-owned one. We would rather lose a repair than sell you a bad decision.

Is it cheaper to pay you than to use my deductible?

Compare your deductible against the quote for your repair. On common jobs, paying out of pocket often costs less and leaves your claim available for something worse down the road.
