Careers at Mass Phone Repair. A trade that stays with you.
One job with two halves, Sales Rep and Repair Technician, and everyone on the Saugus floor does both. Repair experience is not required because the training is real training on real devices, taught by the people you will be working beside. We are always hiring.
What the day actually involves
Nobody here is parked at a register while somebody more senior does the interesting work, and nobody is tucked away in a back room with a soldering iron and no conversation. You move between the two all day.
- Repairs. Phones, tablets, laptops and desktops, plus game consoles and controllers. You start with screens, batteries, and charging ports, then take on cameras, water damage, and board-level work as you grow.
- Diagnostics at the counter. Walk-ins describe a symptom, you find the cause. Basic diagnostics are free here, so this is where most conversations begin.
- Explaining and writing up the work. Plain language, honest timelines, and telling somebody straight when a repair is not worth what it costs.
- Accessories and protection. Cases, chargers, cables, and screen protection matched to the customer’s actual device and how they use it.
- Buybacks and trade-ins. Grading used phones, tablets, and laptops, and making offers on devices people want to sell or trade toward something else.
- The shop itself. Organized parts, a clean bench, a store that looks like the people in it care.
Why we can honestly say no experience needed
Two reasons, both practical. The first is that we train on our own bench, on real devices, next to people who have been repairing for years. Screens, batteries, and ports are teachable skills with real technique behind them, and a patient person becomes genuinely useful in weeks, not years.
The second reason is less obvious: prior self-taught experience is often a liability. We have hired people who learned from videos and then spent months unlearning the shortcuts that cause a repair to fail a month and a half later. A clean start is easier for everyone, including you.
The things we cannot teach
Patience, because a display assembly is indifferent to your schedule. Steady hands. Curiosity about what is under the shield. And the ability to stay pleasant with someone who is upset about a device that holds their whole life, without getting defensive or talking down to them.
Useful backgrounds: restaurants and retail, where you learned to run a counter under pressure. The trades, where you built the hands. IT and help desk, where you learned to diagnose from a vague complaint. Gaming, PC building, or anything you have already taken apart on your kitchen table.
Where the job leads
Every store manager in this company came up from this exact role on the floor. Nobody was parachuted in to supervise technicians who knew more than they did. The people on our team page are the evidence, and Saugus is run the same way.
People here also tend to develop a specialty: water damage recovery and data retrieval, micro-soldering, Mac and laptop logic boards, consoles, Android and Samsung repair. Nobody assigns it. You find what you are unusually good at and the work starts finding you.
Working for a small business, not a chain
There is no corporate office and no absentee manager. The owner founded this company in 2011 and still works counters himself. If you have a problem or an idea, you can put it in front of the person who can act on it, which is not the normal experience in retail. The company story is worth reading before you apply.
Practical notes: we are open seven days a week, so weekends are part of the schedule. The job is on your feet and hands-on. And because the bench faces the customers, expect to be asked questions while you work. Explaining what you are doing is part of the role, not an interruption to it.
How to apply

Walking in is a real application here. Bring a resume if you have one. If you do not have one, come tell us about something you have taken apart and put back together.

Common questions
Do I need experience fixing phones?
No. We train from the beginning on our own bench with real devices. We hire for patience, steady hands, curiosity, and how you handle people, then teach the repair work.
Is this sales or repair?
It is one job with both halves in it. Everybody here runs diagnostics, performs repairs, takes care of customers at the counter, recommends accessories and protection, and handles trade-ins and buybacks.
Are you hiring in Saugus specifically?
We hire for this role continuously at every store. Mention the location you want when you apply, or just walk into the store and say so.
What will I be repairing?
Mostly phones and tablets, since that is the bulk of the volume, plus laptops and desktops, game consoles, controllers, and whatever else comes through the door.
Is there a path to management?
Yes, and it is the only path we use. Every store manager in this company started in this role on the floor.
Will I have to work weekends?
Our stores are open seven days a week, so weekend availability is part of the job. The specifics get worked out with the store manager.
Can I just stop in to apply?
Yes. Walk into the store on Route 1 and tell us you are interested. It has always been a legitimate way to apply here, and it shows us something a form cannot.
