Getting east out of Medford
There are two sensible ways and which one you pick depends on where in Medford you are starting. From Medford Square and the Route 60 side, head east on Salem Street and Route 60 toward Malden, then pick up Broadway, which is Route 99, and run north to Route 1 in Saugus. From the Fellsway and the north end of the city, get onto the Lynn Fells Parkway and take it east through Melrose toward Saugus instead. Either way you end up at Route 1, and either way you want the southbound side.
From the Tufts and Hillside end of the city, the parkway route is usually the better bet. From Wellington and the southern end, Route 60 east is more natural. Figure 15 to 20 minutes for most of Medford, more at rush hour, because Route 60 through Malden is not fast at five o'clock.
If you arrive on Route 1 northbound, keep going to the jughandle at Essex Street and loop back onto the southbound side. Route 1 here is divided with no left turn into our lot.
