Straight up Broadway from Malden Center

This one is about as simple as directions get around here. Broadway in Malden is Route 99, and Route 99 runs north out of the city and connects to Route 1 in Saugus. From Malden Center, get onto Broadway northbound and stay on it. Route 99 meets Route 1 south of us, so you will come up on the northbound side. Use the jughandle at Essex Street to cross to the southbound side and we are right there next to the old 99 Restaurant building. Call it 12 to 15 minutes from Malden Center without traffic.

A warning worth repeating: Route 1 in Saugus is also signed as Broadway, which means you now have two Broadways in this trip. If your map app has you crawling down a residential street, it picked the wrong one. The right one is the six-lane highway with the enormous restaurant signage.

If you are coming from the Maplewood or Linden side of Malden, you can also cut east toward Route 1 rather than going up through the middle of the city, and from the Melrose end the Lynn Fells Parkway runs east to Saugus.
