The charging problem, and the free version of the fix

Start with the cable. USB-C cables run from excellent to rubbish, they get stepped on in cars and yanked out of laptops, and a failed cable is indistinguishable from a failed port unless you test it. Swapping cables costs you nothing and solves this more often than anyone expects.

Next suspect is lint. Pocket debris compacts into the bottom of the port over a year or two until the plug can no longer seat fully. That feels exactly like a dying port and is not one. We clear it out during the free basic diagnostic, and a fair number of people leave without paying for anything, which is a good outcome even though it is a bad transaction.

A port that really is damaged usually got there through leverage rather than wear: plugged in at an angle, or used while charging. That is a replaceable part and a same-visit repair here. During the diagnostic we check whether the damage stayed at the port or went further, because that changes the job, and you get told which one you have before you commit to anything.

Face ID works when you get the phone back

A screen replacement on the 15 runs about an hour when the panel is in stock. The part that matters most to you is the transfer: the hardware that unlocks your phone with your face lives in the broken screen and moves across to the new one. Done properly, your phone unlocks exactly as it always has.

The one thing nobody can undo is a drop that physically destroyed that hardware, because Apple ties it to your specific phone. We check yours during the free diagnostic, before you have spent anything, so it is never a surprise at pickup.

Standard notes we give on any current iPhone: your phone will show a message in Settings if the screen or battery is not an Apple part, and the automatic color-warmth setting can behave slightly differently with a replacement panel. Everything keeps working, and we say all of it at the counter before anything gets opened.

If your back glass broke, you got lucky

Owners of the standard iPhone 15 catch a real break here, and it is genuinely good news. Apple built the non-Pro phones so the rear glass can be handled on its own. On a Pro, the back is fixed into the body and replacing it is a full teardown that prices above a screen. On your 15 it is a normal repair at a normal price.

So if your back is spiderwebbed, it is worth fixing rather than living with. Cracked back glass sheds slivers into your palm and lets moisture reach the internals, and on this phone the fix does not hurt.

This is one of the rare cases where the cheaper phone is also the cheaper phone to own, and almost nobody knows it until they ask.

Your photos are not going anywhere

We do not erase devices, and nothing on this list requires touching your data. Photos, messages, apps, and logins are all exactly where you left them when you collect the phone.

Your device passcode is the only thing we ask for, and it is so we can test the repair before handing it over: touch across the whole screen, Face ID, the cameras, charging, and audio. We will never ask for your Apple account password because no repair here needs it.

If you want to back up first, do. It takes a few minutes and it is a good habit regardless of who is working on your phone.

Which grade of screen to buy

This model is old enough that good aftermarket panels are plentiful and new enough that you will be carrying it for a while, so both answers are legitimate and we stock both.

Go with the higher grade if you are outside a lot or you care about color, because that is where the gap lives: outdoor brightness in direct sun and color temperature. Save the money if the phone mostly lives between a desk and a pocket, and put the difference toward a battery or a case that prevents your next visit here.

The rest of the 15 list

• Battery fading. Heavy users are starting to feel it on this generation. We read real health data rather than guessing from behavior, so you do not pay for the wrong repair.
• Blurry photos. Usually the glass over the rear camera rather than the camera itself, and that is a much smaller repair. We check it first, every time.
• Muffled calls. Earpiece and microphone are individual parts and usually a same-visit job.
• Screen looks fine, touch is dead. Typically the touch layer after an impact, occasionally a connection that needs reseating. The free diagnostic sorts it out.
• Water. Power it off, keep it off, do not plug it in, and do not use rice. Getting it onto a bench quickly is the only thing that improves the odds, and we will be honest about what they are.

Should you fix it at all?

Yes, in most cases. The iPhone 15 runs current software, has years left, and every repair listed here costs a fraction of a replacement phone. That is not a close call.

Two things complicate it. Coverage is the first: plenty of phones this age are still inside a plan, and we handle insurance claim repairs, so mention it and we will tell you which path actually saves you money. The second is stacked damage. Front, back, port, and battery on one device can add up to a number where trading makes more sense than fixing.

When it does, we buy phones outright including damaged ones through our buyback, and everything in pre-owned inventory is tested and warrantied. Having three options instead of one is the point. We would rather you leave with the right device than the expensive repair.
